A new quadrupole mass spectrometer from HIDEN Analytical was recently successfully installed at the NUC-FUSEN-TEN laboratory, Fuel Cycle Section, of the ENEA Research Center in Frascati.

The spectrometer will be used for gas analysis in processes based on Pd-Ag membranes under conditions relevant to the fuel cycle of nuclear fusion reactors. The spectrometer is equipped with a triple filter quadrupole, which guarantees excellent performance. Furthermore, a modification to the pumping system allows it to work with hydrogen flows of up to 100%, while thanks to soft ionisation it is possible to measure small quantities of deuterium even in the presence of a lot of helium (both with a mass of 4 amu).
